Both use a minnow-profile bait and both exist because sonar now shows the fish. The Damiki rig is vertical: the minnow is threaded on a jig head, lowered straight below the boat and held almost motionless, which Wired2Fish describes as fishing straight over the gunwale at a baitfish that is hovering.

Mid-strolling is horizontal. Bassmaster describes a cast past a fish seen on sonar, a medium to medium-slow reel back through the depth it is holding, and light rod shakes that make the bait roll. The same minnow can do both jobs, but the balance requirement is not identical.
