What is in an opportunity brief?
Direct answer
Every brief on this site follows the same nine parts, so two briefs can be compared and a single answer can be lifted without reading the whole page.
Key facts
- The structure is fixed, so two briefs can be read side by side.
- Part 9 lists what has not been verified, on every brief.
- Every market claim carries a source; anything unsourced is listed rather than asserted.
A brief that changes shape between products cannot be compared with anything. So the shape is fixed, and the ninth part exists to mark the edge of what is known.
| Part | Question it answers | Why it decides the order |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Direct answer | What is this product, who buys it, why now? | The 100-word version a buyer forwards to their team |
| 2. Key facts | Size, weight, material, pack, price points | The numbers a specification is built from |
| 3. Waters and species | Freshwater or saltwater, shore or boat, which fish | A product for the wrong water does not sell twice |
| 4. How it is fished | Rigging, depth, season, terminal tackle | Decides whether you bundle hooks and weights |
| 5. Material and construction | TPR, TPE, PVC, silicone, buoyancy, flake | The difference between a repeat order and a complaint |
| 6. Retail channels | Which format each channel buys | Pack count and color count are channel decisions |
| 7. Buying calendar | When to order to be on shelf | Miss the window and the stock arrives after the season |
| 8. Specification checklist | What to send for a comparable quote | Turns a vague enquiry into an answerable one |
| 9. What we have not verified | Which numbers are missing | Marks the edge of what is known instead of guessing |
The briefs themselves are at the Opportunities index, and each question raised by a brief has its own answer page.
