What is in an opportunity brief?

Direct answer

Every brief on this site follows the same nine parts, so two briefs can be compared and a single answer can be lifted without reading the whole page. The parts run from a 100-word direct answer through key facts, waters and species, rigging, materials, retail channels, the buying calendar, a specification checklist, and an explicit list of what has not been verified. Missing parts are stated as missing rather than skipped.

Key facts

  1. The structure is fixed, so two briefs can be read side by side.
  2. Part 9 lists what has not been verified, on every brief.
  3. Every market claim carries a source; anything unsourced is listed rather than asserted.

A brief that changes shape between products cannot be compared with anything. So the shape is fixed, and the ninth part exists to mark the edge of what is known.

The fixed structure of a brief. Missing parts are stated as missing rather than skipped.
