A first enquiry either carries enough to answer or it produces a reply asking for the rest. On a small desk the difference is a day, and over a programme it is the difference between a supplier relationship and a correspondence.
Which desk handles which question
Four routes, and what each one is for.
| Your question | Where it goes | What it needs to be answerable |
| Pricing a specification, or a quotation against it | Buyer desk | Specification, quantity, destination market, and the price basis you want |
| Whether a factory is what it claims to be | Verification desk | The company name, and where you found it |
| A trade account, or access to full price fields | Account desk | Company, registration, product families, rough quantities |
| A correction to a published record | Records desk | The page, the field, and what the correct value is |
| Data, deletion or privacy | Privacy desk | What you are asking for; identity confirmation is asked once |
Where a question crosses two desks, it is routed once and answered once. Sending the same enquiry to two routes produces two partial answers rather than one complete one, which is slower for you and harder for us to track.
What should be included so the first reply is useful
Four things turn an enquiry into a quotation: the specification, the quantity, the destination market, and the price basis. Everything else can be resolved in the second exchange, and those four cannot — a factory that does not have them cannot quote, and a desk that does not have them can only ask.
Specification means the material line rather than the category: not "soft lures" but the body material, the length, the salt load if it matters, and the hardware by part where the hardware decides the price. Quantity means the number you would actually order, with the quantity band that applies, because the fixed part of the cost is spread across it. Destination market decides which compliance rules apply and therefore which materials are acceptable. Price basis means FOB port or EXW factory, named — the reference bands on this site are stated so that two quotations can be placed beside each other, and a quote without a basis cannot be.
Two additions are optional and worth including anyway. Your timeline, because it decides whether new tooling is feasible at all. And any constraint you already know about — a packaging format your channel requires, a colourway standard you sell against — because discovering those after sampling is the most expensive way to find them.
How fast an answer arrives
The reply standard is one business day for the first response, and that is a commitment about the acknowledgement and the routing rather than about the full answer. A price against a specification takes longer, because it depends on the factory rather than on the desk — but you should know within a day that the enquiry arrived, who has it, and what is still missing from it.
Finding an error in a published record
Send the page, the field, and what the correct value is, plus how you know. A registration name that changed, a capacity figure that has moved, a contact who has left, a band that no longer reflects what factories are actually quoting — all of those are worth reporting, and the record is corrected or withdrawn rather than left standing.
Corrections are published rather than applied quietly. A record that was wrong and is now right is more useful than one whose history is invisible, and the count of published records changes when a record is withdrawn, which makes the withdrawal visible as a decision rather than as a gap.
Calling instead of writing
Writing is the default because a specification, a quantity and a basis are all things that have to be recorded to be used, and a call produces none of them reliably. Where a question genuinely needs a conversation — a compliance question that depends on how a rule applies to your product, or a programme that spans several sub-categories — ask for a call in writing first, and the person who takes it will already have the four facts in front of them.
That is also the honest limit of a small desk. There is no call centre behind this page, so an unannounced call is answered by whoever is free rather than by the person who can answer it.
What to include in each type of enquiry
Buyer enquiry
- Product or sub-category, with the parameters that matter (weight, material, hardware, action)
- Quantity for the first order and the expected annual volume
- Destination market and preferred Incoterm
- Certifications or market requirements
- Timing: when you need the goods landed
Data correction
- The supplier ID from the profile URL
- The field that is wrong, and what it should say
- A source or document that supports the correction
- Whether you are the factory, a buyer, or a third party
We correct or withdraw, and we note the change on the record. Removal requests are actioned within 24 hours.
Before you write
Two things speed everything up:
- State the basis you want. FOB and EXW prices differ by inland freight and export handling; telling us which you compare on removes a round trip.
- Say what you will do with the answer. A trial order, a budget check and a full programme need different levels of detail, and we would rather give you the right one.
Which desk handles which question?
Four desks, one reply-time standard each. Routing to the wrong desk is the most common cause of a slow answer.
| Desk | What it handles | Reply time |
| Buyer sourcing | Specifications, quotations, sample coordination | 1 business day |
| Trade accounts | Distributor and trade-account applications | 1 business day |
| Factory applications | Suppliers applying to be listed | 2 business days |
| Data corrections | Challenges to a published record | 1 business day |
What should you include so the first reply is useful?
- Product type and sub-category, as specifically as you can.
- Order quantity —the figure you would actually place, not a range.
- Material and colourway, with the tolerance you will accept on a repeat order.
- Packaging format, if retail packaging is part of the order.
- Destination market, because it decides the compliance route and the duty treatment.
How big is the Chinese fishing tackle export market?
China exports under HS heading 9507 — fishing rods, hooks, reels and artificial bait. Source: UN Comtrade reporter data for China, retrieved via the official API.| Measure | 2024 | 2023 | Change |
|---|
| All fishing tackle (HS 9507) | US$1.93 bn | US$1.77 bn | +9.0% |
| Fishing rods (HS 950710) | US$0.66 bn | US$0.62 bn | +6.5% |
| Fish hooks (HS 950720) | US$0.11 bn | US$0.11 bn | flat |
| Destination countries served | 196 | 197 | -1 |
| Largest single destination | US$546 M | US$445 M | +23% |
Rods account for about 34% of the total and hooks about 6%. The largest single destination takes roughly 28% of the 2024 total — which is why the export markets already on a supplier record are worth reading before you ask for a price.
Who supplies the United States?
US imports under HS heading 9507 in 2024, by source country. Source: UN Comtrade reporter data for the United States, retrieved via the official API.| Source | 2024 import value | Share of total |
|---|
| China | US$538 M | 59% |
| Japan | US$74 M | 8% |
| Malaysia | US$53 M | 6% |
| Viet Nam | US$42 M | 5% |
| All other sources (65 countries) | US$199 M | 22% |
| Total US imports | US$906 M | 100% |
The United States bought US$906 M of fishing tackle under HS 9507 in 2024 from 69 source countries. China supplied US$538 M of it — 59% of the total, and roughly 7 times the next largest source. That concentration is why specification discipline matters more than factory discovery: the factories are not hard to find, the comparable quotation is.
